November 2015: Making a Mark

by Mark Rowe

It’s November already, is it time to dig out those Christmas decorations yet?!

We have had some new and interesting moves, as always; so here we go, Firstly let’s turn our eyes to ADI Global, The distributor has appointed a new guy to run things here in the UK. Alan Paterson joins the company from Premier Farnell where he was the European sales and marketing director; he has also worked for Johnson Controls. I have also been advised that after a very long time, well over 18 months, that they have also appointed a new UK sales director who starts in the middle of November, Now I am not sure that I can mention who has taken on this massive role, but I do know he will be a vigilant employee that will make his mark! Oh go on yes it is Mark Massie who starts in his new role on November 17, and I know he can’t wait to get back into it as he has the best kept garden in Kettering.

Welcome Jeremy
Talking of big roles do you remember Jeremy Hockham? In October 2007 Jeremy left the UK to go to America with all his family as he had been promoted by Bosch to go and run the US sales operation, you may recall he was at that time the UK Managing Director. I recall going out to Rochester in the state of New York at his invitation to take a look around their product testing site which was really interesting. I did write about it at the time. Well he has returned to the UK and is taking up a new role as Managing Director for Norbain SD ltd (Norbain Holdings) as of November 1. Welcome back home Jeremy.

Paul’s the asset
Last month I gave you a clue as to who was the new man at Genetec, well it is Paul Dodds, yes the clue was in the sentence that ‘he will be an asset to the company’ Paul being at distributor Aasset before. Can’t believe some of you got it wrong!

BDM
Martin Morris has joined eneo the German CCTV manufacturer as the business development manager for UK and Ireland. Yes, he was at Panasonic before that and even spent some time at Mayflex but that was back in 2006.

IDIS
IDIS have been recruiting; Rob Clark is to look after their distribution partners. Rob has been around the industry for at least ten years having worked over at Sony, Mitsubishi, TDSI, Lucent Engineering, Avaya and Genesis, no not the pop group. Not many of you will know this but Rod is a very good shooter, yep you can often find him down the shooting range in Milton Keynes. Well, we all have our hobbies.

Wavestore
Wavestore has appointed Andy Start as regional sales manager for the UK and Ireland. Andy will be working with consultants, specifiers and installers. A seasoned sales man, he had senior sales roles for Blue Helix, the specialist IT distributor; and Milestone Systems, where he was channel business manager.

Honeywell combination
Now you may have heard about something different at Honeywell; seems they have merged Honeywell Security Group (HSG) and Honeywell Fire Safety (HFS) businesses to form the new Honeywell Security and Fire (HSF) business unit within Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions (ACS). The combination of the two makes sense the multi-national says for itself and for customers as they say ‘it offers a broader and more robust portfolio of best-in-class products and end-to-end connected solutions for Homes and Buildings’. Those are their words not mine, but it does mean that they can now offer a one shop point of contact. Leading the new business is David Paja, reporting to Alex Ismail, president and CEO of ACS. David, who joined Honeywell in 2003, most recently served as president of Honeywell Security Group.

For charity
Greg Stuttle, Business Development Manager at detection product company GJD recently took part in a three-day, 250 mile cycling challenge to raise funds for British Heart Foundation. Greg was one of 200 that rode from Kent to the Palace of Versailles. Greg said: “I completed this ride with my brother John last year and it inspired six of my friends to join me this year, so we created The Essex Boys Team.” Greg has raised £600. Rob Evans from CSL Dualcom was at it again with his annual swimming and this year raised another £5,000; well done Rob. You know the access control manufacturer TDSi; their MD John Davies (pictured) did the Bournemouth Marathon in aid of Dorset and Wiltshire Children’s Hospices Julia’ House. He thanked sponsors. A marathon is a considerable challenge, as he says, and he’s planning more in 2016. Paris, London and New York. John, you truly have done it and have the T-shirt. I hope you mean you’re going to run their marathons, and not run to all those places.
