RUSI on organised crime

by Mark Rowe

The defence and security think-tank RUSI has launched what it calls a Strategic Hub for Organised Crime research. It’s in association with the Home Office, National Crime Agency, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and the Partnership for Crime, Conflict and Security within Research Councils UK. The aim, to do research for policymakers and practitioners in the field.

RUSI (the Royal United Services Institute) points to the harmful impacts of organised crime in the UK becoming more visible, from new areas such as cybercrime, trafficking in cultural objects and match fixing, in addition to traditional activities like drug trafficking. The cost of organised crime in the UK is estimated as at least £24 billion, with an impact on communities, families and individuals. Further afield organised crime undermines development aid.

A launch conference will run at RUSI on December 8 at RUSI’s offices at Whitehall, London SW1A 2ET.
