Senior Open contract

by Mark Rowe

Golf’s European Tour has chosen Topher Ltd to provide security for the 2015 Senior Open, at Sunningdale in Berkshire, in July.

The security contractor says that it will be deploying a sizeable team to the event, to meet security roles from access control to VIP protection. Offricers will be on-site during the long build phase as well as for the four days of the actual golf.

Simon Alliss, championship director for the European Tour, joint partner with the R&A for the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex, said: “I was very pleased to see Topher’s tender for this contract, having experienced them first hand at the Travis Perkins Senior Masters at Woburn on previous occasions. Topher’s security officers are without doubt amongst the best in the industry. Not only do they provide a commanding security presence with their quiet professionalism and military poise, they are a valuable asset to customer relations as a first point of consumer contact. Topher’s well briefed officers, wearing their trademark green blazer, tie and khaki slacks, are popular and trusted figures with the public, something I’m keen to take advantage of for the Senior Open Championship.”

Chris Haywood, pictured left, managing director of Topher, is a keen golfer himself. He said: “The Senior Open Championship is a distinguished and high profile competition, and I’m very proud that Topher has been selected to provide security for this prestigious event. We’ll be ensuring the security of the site, public, staff, players and VIPs and augmenting the venue’s customer service offering with our approachable and well-informed security officers.”
