Shetland project

by Mark Rowe

In 2009 TeleVigil Associates were appointed by the oil firm Total as security consultants for their new gas production facility in Shetland.

The contract included the development of operational requirements (OR) and design of an integrated physical security system for the new site, to meet with the site’s official Centre for Protection of National Infrastructures (CPNI) security classification.

The security systems specified and installed include fencing installed by Allens Total Perimeter Security and Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) by Avon Barrier Company.

To overcome the severe weather and associated problems experienced on the hazardous terrain, the security systems specified and installed include Perimeter Intruder Detection Systems (PIDS) with thermal imaging and Moving Image Separation Technology (MIST), originally developed for the defence sector andinstalled by Nessco; Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) installed by Avon Barrier Company and high security fencing installed by Allens Total Perimeter Security.

Andy Brooks owner of TeleVigil Associates has worked with the Laggan Tormore Project team from the initial appointment by Total Exploration and Production and with Petrofac during the design, procurement, construction and delivery phases to completion of the project. The new facility went live in February 2016 and will provide enough gas to supply more than two million homes in the UK.
