ADT At Arena

by msecadm4921

ADT has won a contract to install safety and security systems for the Arena at The O 2 (formerly the Millennium Dome).

It is due to open in July 2007 as an entertainment venue.

The deal was signed with the owners and operators of The O 2, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and sees ADT working with main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine. ADT will supply 120-camera CCTV system, more than 30 door entry points, fire detection and public address/voice alarm (PA/VA) systems worth an estimated £3m over the next year.

What they say

Adrian Casey, Managing Director of ADT Europe and South Africa says: “This is an exciting project. The O 2 Arena is one of the largest and most prestigious entertainment venue contracts that ADT has won. We have the ability to meet the very challenging demands of this development and proven experience in providing integrated systems using the latest technology at major public venues in the UK.”

The indoor arena for up to 23,000 fans will host music, entertainment and sports. The O 2 is an official venue for the 2012 Olympics, hosting the gymnastic and basketball finals. The O 2 Arena security team will be able to view the entire site on multiple screens and monitor activity through a network of digital video management systems, the installer reports. The fire detection system consists of over 900 smoke detectors, 50 call points, more than 5,500 metres of pipe and eight networked control panels. This will continuously monitor air within the venue to provide an alert of a pre-fire condition before a fire fully develops.

A PA/VA system will also be installed, which forms part of the main Arena sound system, in addition to supporting the surrounding areas where venue’s music can be heard. It includes 1,200 speakers delivering in excess of 200,000 watts of sound power and will provide vital announcements and alerts.

Clive Hunter, Account Director, Leisure, at ADT said: “The size and timescale of this project presents a number of unique challenges. The key to our success will be working in co-operation with over 100 contractors on site. To meet the project deadlines, over 13,500 hours will be worked by ADT engineers over the next 12 months. The installation phase will be complete in May 2007, in time for testing and commissioning prior to the July opening.” Other sporting and entertainment venues in the UK with ADT products include Wimbledon, Twickenham, the City of Manchester Stadium, the Barbican and Royal Albert Hall.
