Honeywell has launched the G2 Series of security alarm panels.
Built on Galaxy technology, the G2 Series is tailored to fit residential and small commercial applications, the security product firm reports.
A feature of the G2 control panel is its bi-directional functionality, which is delivered through Honeywell’s Alpha radio protocol via an RF portal that can be fitted to the panel. Unlike one-way simple radio functions, the transmitter sends a message on one channel, and then switches to a listen mode. If it does not receive an acknowledgement from the radio within a predetermined time period, it repeats the procedure until it does. The radio transmitter will activate the alarm unless it receives an affirmative response that an intrusion has not taken place.

The G2 Series also comes with a radio control fob. Site and security managers can use the fob to conveniently set and unset the system from a separate location. The fob batteries can be changed by the user and a light emitting diode illuminates if power is low. ACCeSS Remote Servicing software enables the installer to conduct remote maintenance checks electronically, saving time and money.
Wireless technology
Use of wireless technology allows for installation in areas or locations in which wired connections would present an issue – for example where wires are hidden or buried. It is also designed more compactly than its predecessor, fitting more easily into cupboards and small spaces. The control panel is also programmed to function as a dual model, offering an access control facility alongside its intruder detection features. The MAX reader, an access control card reader that plugs into the control panel, enables the system to be set and unset from the door itself.
Ethernet/IP
Another important feature of the G2 Series is that it is compatible with an existing Ethernet or IP network. This means, according to the makers, that businesses do not need to invest in an expensive telecoms solution or worry about whether their control panel will function properly when connected to the network. In the event of a phone line being cut during a break-in, an incident that prevents other systems from alerting the police that a problem has occurred, the G2 Series’ built in SIM card sends a GSM signal to the authorities. This feature delivers extra confidence to the user, it is claimed. Not only can the G2 Series be programmed to operate with up to three fully independent subsystems, it also includes programmable keypads which can be used where system operation needs to be split, such as in flats or apartment blocks. This allows more convenient operation and reduces costs for the customer, it is claimed.
