Anti-mask Detectors

by msecadm4921

Detection product firm Optex Europe has launched a new range of Grade 3 detectors with Active Infrared (AIR) anti-mask technology.

The new OPTiMAL series comprises three new Grade 3 variants to supercede the DX and CX models, two of which use the new adjustable AIR feature: the OML DAM, a dualtech detector with Active Infrared anti-mask is an entirely new product that combines the best features of the earlier DX/CX versions; the OML AM is an upgraded CX, a PIR detector with Active Infrared anti-mask.

“Active Infrared is the only technology that can be described as a ‘dedicated’ anti-mask technology,” says Paul Nicholas, Sales Manager for Optex Europe. “By building AIR into our new range of detectors, anti-masking performance is considerably enhanced.

“With microwave, there is always the danger when the detector has been partially masked that no masking condition will be signalled if PIR activity is still detected. With AIR-based detectors, however, successful partial masking is not possible as it will be identified and continually signalled. The ability to adjust the range of the anti-mask is also particularly innovative, bringing a new level of flexibility to installer and end user alike.”

All of the new detectors feature selectable integrated resistors that the firm says reduce the likelihood of installation errors and similarly cut down on initial installation time. They also feature a remote self-test function that allows a more thorough remote maintenance check to be performed as well as helping improve the efficiency of the actual physical service inspection.

All of the detectors have the same features as previous models including Double Conductive Shielding of the Pyroelectric Element, that is in effect a double filtering and shielding of visible light and RFI, such that only infrared energy reaches the
Pyroelectric Elements. “This feature – which is already proven in Optex Europe’s RedWall range of external detectors – further improves the reliability of the detector by reducing the likelihood of false alarms,” Paul adds.

The detectors similarly use Quad Zone Logic technology to minimise false alarms caused by spot temperature changes. Quad Zone Logic creates a much higher vertical zone density than usually available. This allows an entire body mass of a person to be detected, and the smallest contrasts in temperature between the individual and their background to be discerned. The detection density also takes into account dead zones created by furniture or partitions.

The detectors also have digital temperature compensation, microwave disable function via arm/disarm status recognition, and remote LED control.

The third of the Grade 3 detectors launched as part of the new range is an upgraded DX known as the OML DT Plus. The OML DT Plus is a dualtech with microwave anti-mask for applications where microwave may still be appropriate. There are also two new Grade 2 variants, the OML DT (a dualtech with microwave anti-mask) and the OML ST (a PIR Active Infrared anti-mask). All of the new detectors have the same housing to provide a uniform external appearance.
