New West End Company’s Red Caps yesterday won the Best Team category in the British Security Industry Association’s annual security officer awards 2006.

The Red Caps were nominated for their contribution to customer service and crime prevention in the area. During 2005, the Red Caps gave assistance to about 150,000 visitors, offered crime prevention advice to 100,000 members of the public and assisted the police on over 50 occasions.

What they say

Gary Reeves, Chief Executive of New West End Company said: “Our Red Caps are a part of everyday life in the West End. They play a vital role in providing a friendlier and safer place to visit. We are delighted they have been recognised nationally for their excellence in customer service and ongoing enthusiasm in assisting visitors and retailers in the area.” Chief Inspector Bernie Gravett of the Metropolitan Police commented: "The team has provided an increased uniformed presence which has deterred crime and created an atmosphere of enhanced safety. I have been very impressed with the quality of staff that work as part of the team and I congratulate them for their award." And Mike Perry, Street Operations Manager of New West End Company added: "The Red Caps skills came into their own during the events of July when they provided support and advice to over 10,000 visitors and workers in the area. This is just one example of the fantastic customer service we provide every day here in London’s West End."
The award was presented by Sir Digby Jones, Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry at the Association’s annual luncheon at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London.
