The British Standards Institution (BSI) has published two new codes of practice.
They are BS 7858:2006, security screening of individuals employed in a security environment; and BS 8473:2006 intruder and hold-up alarm systems, management of false alarms.
West London-based BSI reports that BS 7858:2006 gives recommendations for the security screening of individuals to be employed in an environment where the security and safety of people, goods or property (intellectual and physical property) is a requirement of the employing organization’s operations and/or where such security screening is in the public interest. BS 7858:2006 supersedes BS7858:2004, which will be withdrawn on December 31. For information go to www.bsi-global.com/bs7858
BS 8473:2006 gives guidance on the management of intruder and hold-up alarm systems (I&HAS) and the management of alarm conditions when they occur, to reduce the nuisance factor and waste of resources in responding to false alarms. It applies to all remotely notified intruder and hold-up alarm systems and also applies to audible only intruder and hold-up alarm systems, except where otherwise stated. BS 8473:2006 supersedes DD 245:2002, which has now been withdrawn. Each is priced at £98, £49 to members; or download free at public libraries. Go to www.bsi-global.com/bs8473
