Network video product firmAxis Communications has a new series of fixed day and night cameras .

AXIS P13 cameras include HDTV video and H.264 streams.

"AXIS P13 Network Camera Series introduces the concept of precise iris control enabling higher contrast, clarity, resolution and better depth of field thereby delivering superb megapixel/HDTV video in both indoor and outdoor applications," says Erik Frännlid, Director of Product Management, Axis Communications. "This new series of network cameras also offers remote back focus capabilities in combination with the pixel counter feature, digital PTZ and multi-view streaming, making them the perfect choice for securing locations such as governmental buildings, retail environments, airports, railway stations and subways."

The P1343 Network Camera delivers SVGA resolution, whereas the P1344 and P1346 models offer 1MP/ HDTV 720p and 3MP/HDTV 1080p respectively, in compliance with the SMPTE standards in resolution, colour representation and frame rate. AXIS P1346 introduces the P-Iris control, also supporting DC-iris for backward compatibility. This model also supports multi-view streaming allowing separate video streams of zoomed in sections at the same time as a downscaled full overview image.

Adding up

AXIS P13 cameras offer two-way audio support with what the makers term enhanced audio quality, video intelligence such as video motion detection, audio detection and detection of camera tampering attempts. For further flexibility regarding storage and bandwidth usage, AXIS P13 Network Cameras offer support for an optional SD/SDHC memory card for local video recordings.

AXIS P13 Series provides multiple, individually configurable video streams in H.264 compression, significantly optimising bandwidth and storage utilization, it is claimed, without compromising image quality. Motion JPEG is also supported. All models support Power over Ethernet, reducing installation costs by eliminating the need for power cables. The cameras will be available to order in Q3 2009.

Axis Communications has also introduced an outdoor-ready PTZ dome. AXIS Q6032-E PTZ Dome Network Camera is ideal for use at airports and seaports, city and perimeter surveillance.

"AXIS Q6032-E is a top-performing PTZ dome camera that’s ready right out of the box for mounting outdoors," says Erik Frännlid, Axis’ Director of Product Management. "There is no need to purchase and mount a separate outdoor housing, so it’s quick and easy to install the network camera. AXIS Q6032-E meets demanding requirements for superb video quality, high zoom for detailed inspection, fast and precise pan/tilt performance and reliable operation in extreme climates."

Arctic Temperature Control, a new functionality from Axis, is introduced for the first time in AXIS Q6032-E. It allows the camera to not only function at minus 40 degrees C (-40 °F) but also power up at that temperature following a power failure. The camera can operate in temperatures ranging from minus 40 °C to 50 °C (-40 °F to 122 °F) and has an IP66-rated protection against dust and water.

AXIS Q6032-E is powered through High Power over Ethernet, which simplifies installation since only one cable is needed for carrying power, as well as video and pan/tilt/zoom controls. With High PoE, the camera can continue to operate even during a power failure as the network can be connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply. A High PoE midspan is supplied with the camera.

The camera’s video quality is achieved through a number of features: automatic day and night functionality, 128x wide dynamic range, progressive scan technology, and a 35x optical and 12x digital zoom with autofocus. License plates, for instance, can be read from a distance of 160 m (525 ft). A moving object within the camera’s field of view can also be automatically detected and followed using the camera’s intelligent auto-tracking functionality.

AXIS Q6032-E provides the H.264 video compression format, which the firm says optimises bandwidth and storage use without compromising image quality. Motion JPEG is also supported.

The camera’s built-in SD/SDHC memory card slot enables recordings to be stored locally. AXIS Q6032-E will be available to order in June 2009.
