In three months, reports exams body Edexcel, it has awarded more than 500 BTEC Awards in CCTV Operations Public Space Surveillance.
The BTEC Award in CCTV, accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, has the backing of the industry’s licensing organisation, the SIA, who has given Edexcel ‘endorsed awarding body’ status.
Training is now taking place through out England and Wales as contracted control room staff seek to meet the licensing deadline of March 20 (Scotland will come on stream separately). Before someone can apply for a licence they need to have undertaken training and passed the course test and assessment, the exms body adds.
Training providers approved by Edexcel to offer the award include Optimum Training Centre, whose spokesman Terry Pearce said: “We have been delivering CCTV Control Room PSS Operations courses throughout England and Wales since the inception of the SIA national training standards. Optimum is dedicated to high quality training and has selected Edexcel as its awarding body to support these standards. We have hundreds of CCTV operators, supervisors and managers booked onto the new courses right into July 2006.”
Trainers SOE Academy recently trained staff from Operon. Operon’s Commission Manager Sarah Mackin said: “Naturally we wanted to carry out the training as soon as possible to avoid the ‘congestion’ expected after Christmas, and SOE were one of the few providers outside of London who could provide a tried and tested, well structured, professional course in the time frame. I attended the training myself, it exceeded basic requirements and the content was broken down into manageable sections. High quality content, well delivered and fun!”
