Codec Show

by msecadm4921

CCTV firm COE Ltd showed its new digital IP products, transmission systems and control software incorporating the Texas Instruments’ (TI) TMS320C6414 digital signal processor (DSP) at IFSEC.

Leeds-based COE provides CCTV systems for urban transport and industry. The firm showed its X-class video codec system, an IP-based video transmission system to offer real-time analogue-equivalent video using MPEG-4 compression.

COE worked with TI’s programmable TMS320C6414 DSP. The feature sets, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and specifications of the codec reflect COE’s experience in CCTV building on TI’s experience in DSPs, according to COE. TI’s C6000TM DSP family offers code compatibility across all previous C64xTM DSPs and TMS320C62x designs, according to TI. This allows customers to create software for today’s devices and be confident, it is claimed, that their investment will be preserved for higher-performance in the future.

What they say

Andrew Wallace, CEO says: "Using Texas Instruments DSPs has enabled COE to produce a codec which can be updated with new features and which will evolve in line with TI’s roadmap. New features and compression algorithms will be downloaded remotely and the same hardware can be used for both encoding and decoding, providing more flexibility and less spares holding".

Cyril Clocher, Business Development Manager, from TI’s DSP group in Europe said: "We were impressed with COE’s list of reference sites and their long-term experience in the analogue and digital domains of CCTV. By working together with them to combine our DSP technology with COE’s CCTV technology, we are bringing developers a market-leading codec that will accelerate the implementation of high quality digital and hybrid CCTV systems."
