Arrests have already hit the 100 mark in Derbyshire as a result of information given to Crimestoppers by the public.
In the first six months of the year calls received have led to the arrest and charge of 67 alleged drug dealers. Drugs valued at more than £194,000 were also recovered as a result of calls to Crimestoppers which were followed up with investigations involving the police, their partners and the public.
Information has also been received on other crimes such as arson, burglaries and assaults, which have also led to detections.
Kevin Mosley, Crimestoppers Regional Co-ordinator based in Wakefield said: "This is fantastic news. I thought last year was good for the unit but it looks as though this year will break all our previous records thanks to all the people who phone us.
"People who are reluctant to ring the police with information on criminal activity can pass it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
"Crimestoppers is an independent charity and the promise is that all callers remain truly anonymous.
"There isn’t a call line identifier, calls are never traced, calls by land-line don’t appear on itemised billing, calls are not taped and callers are never asked any personal information."
Assistant Chief Constable Peter Goodman said: "It’s great news that we have reached the milestone of 100 arrests so early in the year.
"Crimestoppers has received nearly 1,000 calls relating to crimes in Derbyshire and I’d like to thank everyone who rang in for their public spiritedness.
"We act on every single piece of information that is passed to us. Sometimes we are able to take immediate action and get out there and make an arrest.
"On other occasions the information received may form part of a longer investigation. People may initially be disappointed not to see flashing lights and police officers but they need to know that their information may prove to be a vital piece in a bigger jigsaw."
