Some 23 people are arrested on average each day in the UK thanks to information given to anti-crime charity Crimestoppers has reported in its first online annual review for 2010-2011….
Adding to its anonymous online technology, the crime-reporting line Crimestoppers has published its review in online format for the first time. The review navigates through the year’s activities and achievements by the charity that runs the 0800 phone line, including the work of volunteers across the UK and partnership support from companies, supporters and donors.
Chief Executive Michael Laurie says: “As an organisation we have become leaders in our call and online technologies preserving anonymity for those giving us information on crime, this is a natural progression for our PR communications. With current financial challenges the on-line option is cost effective and easily distributed, but we wanted more than an ‘e-book’ and are very pleased with the dynamic version that we have developed.”
Annual review information includes campaigns, from working with minority communities and the link between counterfeit goods and serious organised crime, to the charity’s Operation Captura campaign. This campaign up to March 2011 identified and led to the arrest of 43 ‘wanted’ UK criminals hiding out in Spain.
