iPass has launched Device Lockdown, a service that provides, it is claimed an added layer of IT protection for remote and mobile devices such as laptops and handheld computers.
The new service automatically scans and updates devices before allowing internet access, working to ensure policy compliance that helps protect against device infection and data theft.
By not requiring a corporate network session, the iPass Device Lockdown service complements “scan-and-block” solutions that operate from the network edge, it is claimed.
At device boot-up, the service works to automatically restrict Internet access solely to iPass Policy Servers. It then automatically analyses, updates, installs and launches device software based on the enterprise’s latest security requirements. This process helps ensure, it is claimed, that devices do not become infected while on the Internet due to missing or out-of-date security software or operating systems patches.
“Remote and mobile devices have become the weak link in enterprise security,” said Chris Christiansen, program vice president for security products and services, IDC. “Most corporate data resides on hard-to-manage laptops and other mobile devices. The situation is further complicated by users taking advantage of Web-based resources and applications rather than connecting back to the corporate network. To manage this situation, policy enforcement must take place at the client and in the cloud. iPass addresses this need with its new service."
