Now a door staff trainer, former Salford pub licensee Molly Prince has just won a North West Training Award.
The mother-of-four has set up her own training company which has already delivered courses to more than 3,000 pub and club door supervisors.
Having decided on a change of career, which would give her a better work life balance instead of the 90-hour week in the pub, Molly set out to get some teaching and training qualifications. She enrolled on a City & Guilds Teaching course, studying in what little spare time she had, and at Huddersfield University studied CIPD Training Practice, where she gained a merit and graduated in November 2003.
Door gap
On graduation Molly saw a gap in the market for trainers qualified to deliver a new course for door supervisors, to meet SIA licence needs, and attended trainer training in conflict management. With on-going support from Salford University, Molly was able to establish her new training business, The Leadership Development Centre.
The company is now accredited by two awarding bodies. Her company has recently added Edexcel’s Btec Level 3 Conflict Management Trainer and Advanced Training Qualifications to the portfolio of qualifications offered.
What they say
Molly said: "I have developed a host of new skills and attitudes that are allowing me to see and develop each opportunity I meet to its fullest potential. We are still on a learning journey, as each day presents new opportunities and challenges."
The National Training Awards regional ceremony for the North West took place at St George’s Hall, Liverpool. The winners of North West Training Awards and National Training Awards were selected for their achievements in workplace training and personal development.
The awards were presented by Gordon Burns, presenter of BBC North West Tonight. He said: "The training I have undertaken throughout my career has given me both the skills and confidence to succeed. I firmly believe that no matter what your age you should never stop learning and developing your skills. I am truly proud to be celebrating the achievements of so many organisations and individuals from the North West here tonight and wish them all the best for the future."
Now in their 19th year the National Training Awards are recognised across the country with 220 entrants taking part in the final stages.
John Korzeniewski, Executive Director at the Learning and Skills Council Greater Manchester adds: "This has been a superb year for the Greater Manchester area with five National Training Award winners and a further four taking North West Training Awards. I congratulate them on their success and outstanding achievements in training and development."
