The defence contribution to resilience in the UK and the 2012 Olympics is among the topics at a one-day conference on the Wednesday, November 23 of the Emergency Services Show.
It’s running at Stoneleigh Park, on the outskirts of Coventry. The accompanying exhibition runs on the Wednesday, and Thursday also, November 23 and 24.
The speakers on the London 2012 Games include Prof Dr Keith Still, G4S Professor of Crowd Dynamics at Bucks New University. Other subjects include getting ready for winter; the civil protection exercise Watermark; use and abuse of social media in times of crisis; and real-time accountability for emergency personnel, survivors and evacuees.
Freddie Heygate of Reading Room will look at the role of social media during the Queensland floods, the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, and the social media responses of police forces to the riots in England in August. Similarly, Ben Proctor, Consultant at The Likeaword Consultancy will say that public services have much to gain from embracing social media technology and much to lose if they ignore it.
