Horse owners are being given the chance of a cut-price deal on an important identification scheme.
??Durham Constabulary is working with the British Horse Society (BHS), the RSPCA and Durham County Council to promote a horse identification event in Bishop Auckland.??To help horse owners and encourage responsible ownership, the BHS and the RSPCA are offering a free microchip to any horse whose owner can produce a current passport.??For those without a passport, owners can have a microchip and a passport for the much reduced price of £10. Owners may submit any number of horses and ponies, and those with more than five animals can opt to have a visit rather than attend the event.??Bishop Auckland Neighbourhood Inspector Martin Peace said: "We’re very pleased to be supporting this event.??"By law every horse must have a passport and microchips are recommended as a way of permanently recording ownership and identity."??The microchipping event is at Bishop Auckland Fire Station on Friday, January 14. Pre-booking is essential as places are limited.
