Plastic card and online fraud detection and prevention is the title of an IIR conference in January in London.
Among invited speakers at the IIR event at Radisson SAS Portman in London W1 on January 29 and 30 are Malcolm French, senior fraud consultant at Nationwide – the man responsible for the plastic card fraud prevention and control strategy at the building society.
Keith Groves, assistant vice president, security and risk, Northern Europe, at Mastercard Europe, is invited to discuss the UK and Continental ATM fraud problem – such as the rapid growth in techniques used by criminals to target ATMs.
Dave Birch and Richard Allen of Consult Hyperion will discuss card not present fraud. Barclaycard fraud prevention man Bryan Sharp will look at the use of two-factor authentication to combat such fraud.
Tom Salmond, eCrime intelligence manager at Barclays Financial Crime Management, will consider ways to respond to online threats, to protect customers and the organisation.
Other speakers invited are former Met Police man Tom Craig, now a consultant, MD of Amarlis, on the wider aspects of identity theft; Clive Reedman, chairman of the International Association for Biometrics; and Det Chief Insp Roger Cook, head of the dedicated cheque and plastic card fraud unit, a City of London Police man who heads the public-private, industry and City of London and Met Police DCPCU.
After the conference on January 31 is a workshop on the use of biometrics, led by Clive Reedman, a former Met Police man now MD of Identity Solutions. He is co-chair of the Skills for Security sector consultation group on human identity and biometrics. Workshop topics include the various main biometric types such as retainal scanning, iris, face, hand geometry, signature and fingerprint, considerations for using biometrics, and practical applications such as e-passports and door access and time attendance.
