The Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games organisers have agreed contract for crowd management and security services with Showsec. The firm will manage more than 3,000 staff throughout the XVII Commonwealth Games. Some 4,000 athletes from 72 nations will go for gold in 14 individual sports and three team sports from July 25 to August 4. Showsec say the contract is the largest crowd management contract for a single event awarded in the UK. The firm reports it has had a dedicated team working with the games? organisers to produce a crowd management and security strategy. The plans for the firm?s role at 24 locations (excluding road events) including the Bolton Arena and City of Manchester Stadium have been fine-tuned over recent months. Showsec Chairman Bert van Horck said: ?We are working towards Manchester 2002 being remembered as ?the friendly games?. Showsec is dedicated to ensuring this prestigious event will be a pleasurable experience for all of the athletes, public and people working on the event.?
