Research technology organisation Sira and Kalagate Imaging Bureau, forensic imagery interpretation and analysis firm, are presenting image analysis training courses for security, defence and police staff.
What is the course about?
The course is a first, the organisers claim, designed to help professionals develop the skills required to understand the analysis, interpretation and exploitation of images ranging from satellite photos to CCTV video and radar imagery. The course seeks to show delegates how images are formed and processed, the scope of their use,and a range of interpretation skills which can be applied in the field. These include:
optical to microwave spectrum interpretation and analysis
imagery analysis of specific targets
security imaging equipment installation and testing
imaging for prosecution and criminal investigation
change detection and targeting.
Why has it become necessary to train on this topic? The organisers point to increasing use of technology to monitor an environment, presenting security and defence staff with the tools to solve crimes, plan actions and identify threats. The ability to use hardware and software to observe an area, individual or object from any location, presents an inherent advantage which can help police solve crimes, military to plan and execute successful missions and security personnel to monitor for personal security. Organisers point also to recent threats to national security and the use of images to combat them, highlight the importance of using visual data to track offenders, identify threats and prevent them wherever possible. Without a clear understanding of the information an image can offer, or the skills required to identify that information, the full potential of imaging technology cannot be harnessed, it is claimed.
