IP User Group

The latest on the IP User Group next seminar at the Britannia Hotel, Stockport on Thursday, March 25, on transport systems.

The introduction of the latest CCTV and surveillance technology can contribute greatly to the overall picture. With the latest recognition technology, suspect people, baggage or parcels can be identified quickly, monitored, tracked and investigated. And as the technology is integrated with many agencies appropriate action taken, be it evacuation, police or fire brigade attendance or simply recording of the material for further analysis and staff training.

We would like to invite all of those responsible for the safety of passengers, staff and equipment on our transport system to attend our Manchester Seminar focuses on Security on our Transport Systems. It is FREE and we would urge all agencies to spare the time; there is also a website with demonstrates the technology http://r.vresp.com/’IPSecurityEventsandM/6d373058ed/170745/89828a28c9

It is FREE to register and included both educational material and extensive case studies.

Planned for some time, but clearly of greater importance following the Madrid tragedy, the March meeting of the IP UserGroup (Security Technology Forum) is focussed on the issues surrounding the safety and security of staff and passengers on our Transport systems and considers how the latest technology can contribute.

Key presentation
<br><br>
The IP UserGroup is an independent organisation representing both sides of the security and surveillance industry, with some 4,000 members comprising manufacturers, solution providers and end users of the latest security technology. The group is seen as the hub of a network of security professionals committed to combating terrorism, theft, antisocial behaviour and making our country a safer place. Many of those attending the March meeting have first-hand experience of security and surveillance techniques within transportation including airports, sea ports, Underground railways, and the national road and rail networks. The presentations at this meeting will focus on the use of the latest networked surveillance technology within transportation and will include case studies that demonstrate the use of integrated security solutions and how they can be applied.

Technology may have part of the answer as our presentation in March will demonstrate by showcasing the very latest innovations. Responding to the Science and Technology Committee report into ‘The Scientific Response to Terrorism,’ Home Office Minister Beverley Hughes
said: "Tackling terrorism is given the highest priority by Government and we are determined to use every tool at our disposal. As the Committee said in its conclusions to its report, the Government is making a concerted effort to respond to the increased threat of a CBRN terrorist attack and has made good use of the expertise at its disposal in the purchase of currently available technologies.

How can emerging technologies help’
<br><br>
Security, surveillance, access controls and biometric systems, together with good staff training and a greater willingness to communicate between agencies will clearly have a positive effect on reducing the threat of terrorism in our towns and cities. Following the huge investment in IT within government and the public sector including high speed networks and broadband connectivity, government and public buildings are probably in the best position to adopt and benefit from the latest network based security, surveillance and biometric technologies. And with the latest generation of security technology offering huge benefits both functionally and financially, all Security professionals should obviously be taking a careful look.
<br><br>
Is now the time to take a closer look’
<br><br>
Many security systems, CCTV cameras or recording devices are either old, badly maintained or at worse out of action. But when working well can make a significant difference. The Home Office states: "We are working hard to protect you from any possible threat from terrorists now and for years to come. And we are constantly looking for new ways to ensure we are doing everything we can on the ground to make Britain safer, without disrupting our lives so much that the terrorists have won by default." Does it have to come to a suicide bombing in one of our major cities like the recent case in Istanbul or the events in Madrid to alert us to the need for sophisticated surveillance and biometric systems. Both digital video recording, intelligent networked cameras and sophisticated software solutions can increase the reliability and effectiveness of counter terrorism intelligence ALL of which will be on discussed in Manchester.

The IP UserGroup is a 24-7 security technology forum centred around its website at http://r.vresp.com/’IPSecurityEventsandM/2490fe2faf/170745/89828a28c9. In this single location you can learn about how IP technology is being utilised in a multitude of applications, find out about the technology and seek partners and expertise for future projects. Membership is FREE and we encourage end-users, buyers, specifiers and installers to register and join a group of like-minded people sharing IP knowledge.
