Lockable Enclosure

by msecadm4921

The DV1 is a lockable enclosure designed for digital video recorders (DVRs), made by Conway Security Products.

For 20 years Conway has been manufacturing lockable enclosures for analogue recorders.

The design of the DV1 has similarities to the existing range, according to the High Wycombe manufacturers, such as anti-jemmy door joins and radial pin camlocks. But the needs of a DVR are different to those of a VCR so there had to be ground-up design change, the firm reports. “VCRs had minimal cable management requirements which meant a simple cable access configuration,” says Ricky Oliver of Conway.

He adds: “DVRs have more complex needs and there has been a balancing act between compromising the integrity of the unit by having holes all over it and at the same time making it workable for the installer.”

The DV1’s back plane proved the solution. The rear of the product has a slot and slide configuration for BNC connectors and space for power, telemetry and the extra cables often needed on a DVR. Should there be security concerns about the rear of the unit because of its location, customers have the option of a screw-on cable cover. This extra feature prevents tampering with the rear of the unit by guiding the cables downwards and out of the way of prying fingers, according to the makers.

Customers also have the option of a fan pack on this unit. The design of the fan pack means it can be fitted retrospectively, if required. Slotting the unit onto the side of the enclosure and fixing it from the inside gives the DVR extra protection from overheating, according to the makers. The fan pack can be fixed to either side of the enclosure meaning that fans can be added individually or in pairs if necessary.

What they say

“Clients often simply go looking for a metal box in which to secure their DVR without considering the consequences of the level of protection they are achieving or the problems they are creating with cable management. The DV1 is not a metal box that fits a DVR like so many on the market. It is an enclosure that genuinely complements the DVR and is designed for it,” adds Ricky Oliver.
