Locks Kitemark

by msecadm4921

Gerda, a developer and manufacturer of products for the security industry, has become the first company to be awarded a Kitemark licence by BSI for thief-resistant lock assemblies in line with the new BS 10621:2007 standard.

The award of the licence, which is based on examination of Gerda’s products and of its quality standards and business procedures, provides specifiers with assurance that the company’s new locks meet or exceed the requirements of BS 10621:2007 in every respect. The Kitemark, as a UK quality mark, is also a marketing aid for Gerda.
Gerda’s new Kitemark licence applies to thief-resistant lock assemblies in the company’s G2000 range, which provide keyless egress, but with the option of locking the thumbturn/handle to prevent egress from the inside. BS 10 621:2007 has been developed in response to requirements identified by Secured by Design, the Fire & Rescue Service, the National House-Building Council and other stakeholders.
A typical application for the new locks is on the entrance door to a dwelling. At times when the dwelling is unoccupied, the thumbturn/handle can be locked, so that if unauthorised entry is gained through, for example, a window, items cannot be removed from the dwelling via the entrance door.

"Locks meeting the new BS 10621:2007 standard fill a clear need in the market and offer enhanced security when used on the main entrance doors of dwellings that have an alternative means of escape," said Nigel Shapland, Senior Technical Officer at NHBC (National House-Building Council). "It is, therefore, pleasing to see Gerda bringing these new locks to the market so quickly. It’s also very good news that the company has been successful in gaining a Kitemark licence which will give extra confidence to specifiers and purchasers who use them."

Gerda’s G2000 range also includes thief-resistant lock assemblies for key egress, which conform to BS 3621:2007, and thief-resistant lock assemblies for keyless egress, which conform to BS8621:2007. The company already holds BSI Kitemark licences for these products. For further information – contact Claire Lynam at BSI on 08450 765600 or visit –
