Manchester’s annual security event ran at the Bridgewater Hall on Wednesday, April 13.
The event ‘Security: Whatever the Cuts’ was sponsored by Securitas Security Services Ltd and was organised by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) crime reduction advisor for the city centre, John Sargeson, with the support of Manchester City Centre Crime Prevention Panel and the British Security Industry Association (BSIA). Invited speakers came from GMP, Cityco and Securitas. <br><br>The event this year focused on providing businesses and partners with a valuable insight into the importance of not overlooking the security aspects of their business when facing tough cuts to budgets. Security breaches not only put them at risk financially, but can have negative repercussions on customer service levels, downtime and potentially deliveries and production processes. <br><br>Superintendent for Manchester city centre, Jim Liggett, said: “This year’s event was held at a really great venue with lots of companies showcasing what they do. It was a great opportunity to share ideas and look to the future. <br><br>“We need to use the opportunities of working together effectively to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour so that Manchester continues to be a safe place for residents, workers and visitors.” <br><br>During the event, the Bill Lowe Memorial Award for the Business Watch Coordinator of the year was presented on behalf of the Manchester City Centre Crime Prevention Panel and GMP’s north Manchester division. The award this year was presented to the Carillion Security Team at Piccadilly. Securitas’ UK Managing Director Geoff Zeidler attended. He said: “Securitas Security Services Ltd are proud to sponsor this year’s Manchester Security event. We are pleased that we can offer our expertise and support to all our partners in the Manchester area to continue all the hard work that they do to make Manchester a safe and secure place.”
