A North Shields-based installer has been tasked with making sure a T-Rex, who last wandered the earth 65 or more million years ago, won’t escape the region’s new attraction.
2020 Vision is completing a security contract worth more than £100,000 for the Great North Museum: Hancock, which is due to open in May. The contract came through its ongoing links with Newcastle University. Installed are 45 cameras around the museum, internally and externally, to protect the museum and its exhibits.
Full operational control and security monitoring will be carried out in real time 24 hours, from the Newcastle University security control room, with local control and display provided in the museum’s command centre.
George Westwater, Security Manager at Newcastle University who is responsible for the security at the Great North Museum said: "2020 Vision is a professional company widely experienced in the installation and maintenance of CCTV systems. It is for this reason that Newcastle University has been using them to install CCTV on campus for more than five years. The company is extremely reliable and is capable of planning and installing the most complex of installations.
"During the recent refurbishment of the Hancock Museum, 2020 Vision was the chosen installers to design the CCTV system using the latest technology, which was extremely important to suit the museum’s security CCTV specification. Throughout this installation as well as previous ones the company has always prided itself by using only the highest quality equipment to ensure reliability and customer satisfaction."
Recording is digital, producing 25 images per second. All external cameras have colour switching technology which are optimised when light levels fall.
Peter Houlis, managing director of 2020 Vision, said: "It has been a great achievement to have the chance to work on such a high profile project. 2020 Vision is extremely grateful that we have once again been given the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in areas where levels of high security and safety are a premium. "We’ve worked in conjunction with Newcastle University for a number of years now and we are proud that they call upon us again to assist with their security needs."
