At Virginia Water near Windsor Great Park, unauthorised parking at a hotel and pub was preventing genuine pub-goers from parking.
Visitors to the lakes at Virginia Water, the beauty spot on the edge of Windsor Great Park, were using the private parking area at The Wheatsheaf Hotel to avoid a œ3.50 charge at a nearby public car park. Such unauthorised parking was preventing genuine pub-goers from parking. Approved BPT installer Atec Security installed three MEC 900 heavy duty, electro-hydraulic traffic barriers, one each at the entrance and exit to the pub car park and another at the entrance to the smaller car park which is accessed through the pub car park but is for the use of hotel guests only. Visitors to the pub pay a œ5 fee at a pay and display machine on entering the car park; this issues them with a receipt that they hand in at the pub for a refund. Hotel guests gain access to the smaller car park with a card reader (part of their room key) or use an intercom system which is linked to the hotel?s internal telephone system, and a mobile handset used by hotel staff. An underground induction loop provides exit at all times. The MEC 900?s air-cooled hydraulic pump system is designed to handle heavy duty cycles.
