The Security Company has published an online guide to seasonal security in which it urges readers to adopt a clear distinction between work and leisure time.
The aim; raising awareness of everyday security risks both at home and in the office. "During any long holiday period, there is a danger of blurring the lines between work and home," explains Bernadette Palmer of The Security Company. "This can mean documents which should be kept safe and secure in an office being taken home, and equally, personal information which is more appropriate to home life being revealed within the office environment."
Among the tips the guide promotes is to use different passwords for different online accounts and also to avoid using unsecured wi-fi networks for accessing bank accounts or similar sensitive information which could pose a financial or commercial risk if accessed by unauthorised users. "No-one is advocating an absence of relaxation over the holidays," continues Bernadette. "What we are saying is don’t let the time of year cloud your judgement when it comes to personal or commercial security of information. That way, when you do get home and relax you won’t let anything ruin your enjoyment!"
The ‘Seasonal Security’ Guide is the sixth in a series of quickstart security awareness guides issued by The Security Company to enable security safeguards, at home and at work. To access any of these visit –
