Private Security Authority in the Republic of Ireland has a new home.
Staff will be joined by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform as he officially opens their new headquarters. Dermot Ahern, TD, with Dr Martin Mansergh, TD, Minister of State at the Department of Finance, with special responsibility for The Office of Public Works, will be in Tipperary Town to formally open the new offices.
The Private Security Authority (PSA) is the independent, statutory body that controls and supervises the private security services and was set up in temporary offices in Tipperary in 2004, as part of the government’s decentralisation drive. All 40 staff will move to the newly refurbished offices, in the old RIC Barracks on Davis Street.
What they say
PSA Chief Executive, Geraldine Larkin, says: “Our staff are extremely excited about the official opening of the Barracks building, which has been restored and interwoven with modern architecture, to provide 21st century office facilities. I think it is fitting that the building, which used to be a RIC [Royal Irish Constabulary, in pre-Eire days] and Garda station, will still play home to an organisation that works to make the country a safer place for all. And this day would not have happened without the vision and commitment of the Office of Public Works, who saw the building’s potential.
“The opening of our offices is a huge milestone in the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform’s decentralisation programme and Tipperary Town is an integral part of this process. Already, there are around 100 staff from the Department working here and by 2010, 200 posts will have moved to the town.
“The PSA has an annual payroll of 1.2million euros, bringing huge benefits to the local economy. We source a considerable amount of local services in the local area, so we would like to thank the local community and businesses for their support, and hope that we can continue to work successfully together for many years to come.”
