Tracefast (www.tracefast.co.uk), is a CD ROM card, no bigger than a credit card.
Whether searching for children, adults, pets or even a stolen vehicle, Tracefast can supply the authorities with information and photographs required to instigate a search, the product providers say.
Tracefast is the idea of David and Yvonne Doonan, who have developed the card with the advice of West Mercia Police.
The idea of Tracefast originated years ago. David and Yvonne themselves lost their daughter when she was four. Police were called and a search
party launched. The police asked the couple for information about their daughter and for a recent photo. However, as the Doonans were naturally in a state of shock, it took precious time to gather all the information that was required.
Their daughter was found safe and well. She is now a teenager who this year visited France by herself. David and Yvonne keep a Tracefast card for her, as well as for their other children.
They add that it is often the case that information is needed on a missing person just when you find you are away from home without PC or vital documents. For these circumstances the Tracefast card is a practical and convenient way to keep important information readily available, they say.
Tracefast cards are now available in a number of versions. As well as for children, cards can be purchased for your pet, horse and your car. All holding the information and photos that will aid the police and authorities.
Samples of the Tracefast card have been given to every police constabulary in the country (and Interpol) and the Association of Chief Police Officers have also been informed of this
initiative, the couple add.
Commenting about Tracefast, Inspector Shakesheff of West Mercia Police said: "The rapid reporting of information in the early stages of any missing person is essential in assisting the police to trace the subject and I naturally support any
mechanism that helps to achieve this."
