The Security Institute plans to set up a framework of best practice working groups across a range of specialist security disciplines.
One of the primary outputs of each working group will be the production of a SyI guideline, which will be an amalgam of the expertise represented in each working group. Possible topics for specialist working groups are:

· CCTV

· The Corporate Response to Terrorism

· TSCM

· Law (Criminal, contract, employment)

· Security Risk Assessment

· Physical Security

· Background Screening

· Hiring Contract Security

· Crisis Management

· BCM

· Maritime Security

· Aviation Security.

Where relevant, individual working groups will link up with any national standards development or other lead bodies for their particular areas of specialism.

The first step is to identify subjects and working group leaders. If you have a particular area of expertise and are willing to collaborate with like-minded colleagues on the development of best practice and production of a guideline, send David Cresswell an email detailing your experience and qualifications in that area, and whether you would like to be a working group member or leader.

Email address – [email protected]

An inaugural coordination meeting of volunteer leaders is proposed on Wednesday 24 Jun at SyI HQ, Nuneaton.

A note of caution – don’t underestimate the commitment, and don’t volunteer unless you are certain that you will be able to devote the time to writing best practice.
