The video transmission product company Vemotion Interactive announced a further order from the Environment Agency. This will extend the reach of a project deployed in 2010, to assist the Environment Agency to manage flooding.
The initial project followed a pilot in Shrewsbury, done with Shropshire Council. The Environment Agency could view live images from the council’s CCTV cameras in locations of particular interest from a flood management point of view. The video compression technology was used to allow live images to be streamed from the council’s CCTV control room over low bit rate networks such as standard GSM mobile phone networks. Environment Agency staff can access images on their laptops from anywhere.
Now live footage captured by personnel outdoors can be viewed by staff at a flood control centre, which helps inform the Agency‚Äôs decisions. Live video from portable camcorders and body-worn cameras is transferred wirelessly to the operative‚Äôs vehicle. Vemotion products compress and transmit the video stream from the vehicle over a GSM mobile connection to the Agency‚Äôs Flood Control centre in Shrewsbury.
