F-Secure, the Finnish Internet security vendor, has launched a world virus map.
This online tool is for anyone interested in understanding the world computer virus situation, the firm claims.
The resource, developed for research purposes at F-Secure’s anti-virus labs, is now available to the public in four languages – English, French, German and Finnish.
Visitors to the address http://worldmap.f-secure.com will see a full world map, and can then drill down for information about a particular continent or country. Colour representations of infection levels from ‘quiet’ to ‘epidemic’ give the viewer an immediate overview of the situation in their chosen area. Related graphs and statistics give the broader context of the outbreak, based on timelines that range from the last hour to the last year, as well as a breakdown of the effects of viruses in question.
What they say
Richard Hales, managing director at F-Secure UK and Ireland, said: “The world virus map is an excellent way to understand the virus situation at any given time. For anybody interested in the ‘bigger picture’ behind a virus in the news or the way viruses develop, this is a great place to start.”
