Barrie set for Yomp

by Mark Rowe

Barrie Millett, Head of Business Resilience at the utility E.ON, is doing more than protect his employer against metal theft and other risks in 2014 – he aims to survive The Yomp.

That’s 30 miles across country, like the final test all Royal Marines have to do to gain their green beret. Barry says: “It’s something I did 30 years ago and at 50 it is going to be a challenge.”

It’s on September 13 in aid of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF), a service charity. Why?

The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund helps Royal Marines and their families. They aid the wounded and injured. They give quality of life to those returning from operations. And when the worst happens, they support the families of those who die in service. It’s also the 350th year of the Royal Marines.

Survive The Yomp is set in the Scottish Highlands around historic Achnacarry Castle … they don’t call it ‘Commando Country’ for nothing.

The event is part of the Commando Spirit Series of fund-raising challenge events to raise £1m for the RMCTF. You can donate at http://www.justgiving.com/Barrie-Millett#!
