Cyber conference

by Mark Rowe

The smallest of cyber incidents can have the biggest of impacts. If a business cannot have cyber prevention, how then to do business risk management, corporate governance of cyber security or employee awareness? And how to attract talent to the field of cyber-security? How to manage the risks, besides the opportunities, of cloud computing?

These are among the issues at the annual BSI (British Standards) conference on information security, in London on November 11.

Among the speakers are Mike Jolley, Head of Information Security and Risk, Yorkshire Building Society; Tony Blanch, Business Improvement Director, Costain Group; Bridget Kenyon, Head of Information Security at University College London (UCL); and Mark Brown, Director, Cyber Security & Resilience at audit firm Ernst & Young LLP. John Phillips, Principal Technology Strategist at Microsoft will discuss security in the Cloud and development of the British Standard BS ISO/IEC 27018.

Renzo Marchini, Special Counsel at law firm Dechert LLP will cover legal issues around cloud security, such as data protection and regulatory requirements in the cloud; and contracts for cloud services. Other topics over the day at Etc Venues Victoria, 1 Drummond Gate, London, SW1V 2QW include ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27002 – the recently published international standards for information security management; and the Government’s Cyber Essentials Scheme.

Chairing the day is Prof Fred Piper, of Royal Holloway University of London. Tom Nichols, Global Security Certifications Manager at BSI will offer a breakfast briefing on the CSA STAR Certification Scheme.
