VWS, the Scottish security installer, has hired three new trainees as junior engineers. They will be joining after completing courses at New College Lanarkshire, formerly Motherwell College. The company is also taking on two new business administration apprentices through its partnerships with apprentice training provider, YouTrain.
VWS reports that it’s a long time supporter of the Modern Apprenticeship scheme, having taken 11 apprentices through its training; six are still with the business, while five new apprentices are progressing through college this year, including Kyle Keith, who’s older brother, Dillon Keith, is joining VWS as a junior engineer.
Graham Wilson, managing director, said: “I like to think that the best thing we can teach these young apprentices is an unwavering commitment to quality. People rely on our systems, and I get a real pride from seeing the apprentices pick up the VWS attitude.”
The three junior engineers are Ross McLoughlin, from Airdrie, Sean Malone, from Cumbernauld, and Dillon Keith, also from Cumbernauld.
Following in the footsteps of recent business administration apprentice, Jack McGinlay, who has been nominated for the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards in the Apprentice of the Year Level 2 category, VWS has taken on two new business administration apprentices: Beth McLean and Calum Finlayson, pictured, both from Cumbernauld.
Chris Scott, technical manager at VWS, said: “These apprentices will be at the coal face from the start. We look forward to Beth and Callum growing with the company, developing flexibility, and becoming truly multidisciplinary employees. All of the apprentices we have hired from YouTrain have been quick learners, and a credit to young people everywhere.”
Both new apprentices attended Greenfaulds High School in Cumbernauld, and came to the attention of VWS through a YouTrain referral.
