Northern CSyP date

Newcastle University is the venue for a CPD (Continuous Professional Development) event for security people working in the North East. It’s running on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, from 4pm to 7pm; registration is from 3.30pm. This event has been organised by the Register of Chartered Security Professionals. Tickets are £20. Organisers are Tyneside-based CSyP Peter Houlis, information security awareness trainer and consultant and Security Institute board member Mike Gillespie, Shed Coulthard, Estates Security Manager at the city centre-based university; and Andy Davis, of consultancy Trident Manor, whose recent museum and art security conference at Gateshead is featured in the January 2017 print issue of Professional Security.

Speakers arranged so far:

Jane Cannon MBE – As Director for Security Industry Engagement, Office for Security and Counter Terrorism at the Home Office, Jane is tasked with raising awareness of their commitment to investing £11m over the next four years to establish the Joint Security and Resilience Centre (JSaRC). JSaRC seeks to provide a way where the UK Government and the security industry and academia can work to respond to urgent and longer term threats to UK national security and take opportunities to support the growth of the security sector.

Dr Peter Speight CSyP – Peter has designed, developed and implemented integrated solutions in major global organisation 4 of which have won ‘Security Excellence Awards’. In 2014 he was awarded ‘Risk Manager’ of the year. He has also published his first Book entitled ‘Why Security Fails’ and this will be the subject of his talk.

David Gill CSyP – David is the Registrar for Chartered Security Professionals, and will be able to offer one-to-one advice on applications and tips for potential applicants.

Bill Wyllie CSyP – A philosophy and politics graduate, Bill is a former Head of Security and Business Continuity Manager at the Bank of England, and has been the external examiner and dissertation adviser for the security-related degrees of MA and MSc, and has worked with several academic institutions on the design of security training. He is the author of the books “The Millennium Security Manager”, “A Guide to Security Surveys” and (with personal safety trainer Steve Collins) “Rules for Dealing with an Armed Robbery”. He is a past chairman of the Security Institute and ASIS UK Chapter 208, and was one of the first CSyPs admitted to the RCSP.
