SICUREZZA 2017 edition

by Mark Rowe

Alongside this year’s SICUREZZA, the Italian trade show for the security and fire sector, will be a new event: SMART BUILDING EXPO. The shows are due from November 15 to 17 in Milan. The aim of organisers; to present an overview of smart building solutions to industry.

Connectivity and digitalisation are breaking down the barriers between the different forms of verticalisation, the organisers say, in residential and non-residential applications. Hence the expo seeks to cover the latest in plant engineering and related services: connectivity, integration with new electrical systems; entertainment based on interaction, on-demand systems and high audio-video definition, and control systems promoting energy efficiency.

The three-day event will have workshops, with a particular focus on Italy. Paolo Dalla Chiara, CEO of Pentastudio, said: “Smart Building Expo has an important goal, and that is, to offer Italy a benchmark exhibition in the electrical and electronic industry. The partnership with Fiera Milano has laid the foundations for this to happen.”

And Luca Baldin, Project Manager of the event, said: “The aim is to provide an adequate response to a market need. There is high demand for an event that adequately represents system integration there where the technology is being developed. As the Internet of Things (IoT) and new building design methods, such as BIM, evolve, the approach will become increasingly cross-sectional. Smart Building Expo is an event that focuses on buildings, in all their manifestations. It tackles new technological applications in a cross-sectional manner, focusing on the concept of smart buildings as the first step towards achieving Smart Cities.”

Domenico Lunghi, Director of the Food, Tech and Industry Division of Fiera Milano, said: “We warmly welcomed the chance to become co-organizers of this new event. The fact that SMART BUILDING EXPO will be held at the same time as SICUREZZA offer us the chance to provide our visitors with an even broader and targeted response to their needs.

“While SMART BUILDING EXPO is an event with a specific identity, it will also enable us to offer insights on topics that, while not strictly pertaining to the world of security, are becoming increasingly interconnected with it. Smart buildings require designers and renovators to consider aspects such as energy efficiency, lighting management and – indeed – security, in the latter case with specific video surveillance, intruder detection and fire prevention systems. If we think of offices or hotels, it is important to have optimal access control, and to programme the operation of lighting and air-conditioning systems, also with a view to optimising energy savings.”

As for SICUREZZA, 160 direct exhibitors, about half of the companies represented in 2015, have already confirmed participation. Indeed, between confirmations and options, the show’s two traditional halls are now fully occupied. With the planned expansion is well under way, with the event occupying Halls 3, 5 and 7.

In confirmation of last year’s trend, this year will see an increase in access control, the organisers report.

Passive Safety also features strongly, with several locksmithing, key management and safe deposit box brands having already signed up. Security smokescreen producers are also turning out.

A special area and demo will be dedicated again to drones and specific security-related solutions.

Giuseppe Garri, Exhibition Manager of SICUREZZA, says: “The 2017 edition is confirming the choices made, first and foremost the decision to switch to odd-numbered years. Indeed, SICUREZZA is continuing its steady growth trend of the past three years. Reassured by this result, we will continue to develop the project in all its aspects, in an increasing attempt to make it an instrument of growth for all industry professionals. One of the next goals is to increase the international reach of SICUREZZA. We believe it has what it takes to rank among the world’s major exhibitions, particularly in those markets, such as Southern Europe and the Balkans, that are geographically and logistically closer”.

SICUREZZA is again planning its Expo Matching Program (EMP), business networking, that aims to match supply and demand, at the show, through mutual profiling.
