James Kelly gave an overview of the BSIA and its role as a trade association for the UK private security industry and explained how the association works with industry stakeholders including the Security Industry Authority (SIA) industry regulator.

The delegation were keen to pursue how trade associations such as the BSIA have worked with the industry regulator to raise standards within the industry, reduce criminal activity and improve the public’s perception of the industry.

Mr Kelly said: “The BSIA is regarded by the majority of industry stakeholders, including the Government, as the leading industry body; evidenced most recently by our invitation from the Home Office to join the challenge group that will help to review the future of the Security Industry Authority.

The meeting was an opportunity for the BSIA to share its almost 50 years’ experience with South African counterparts The Association of African Private Security Owners of South Africa and the Security Industry Alliance.

James Kelly added: “Our colleagues from South Africa wanted to meet with us to learn from our experience and to share best practice which shows how highly regarded the UK’s security industry and indeed the BSIA, is held on the global stage.”
