Eurostar deal

by Mark Rowe

Mitie, the facilities management company, reports that it has retained a multi-million pound security contract with the Channel Tunnel rail company Eurostar.

The three year contract, which could be expanded to five years, will be delivered by the FM contractor’s total security management business. Mitie has worked for Eurostar for five years. The contract firm will provide more than 250 security staff.

Bob Forsyth, managing director of Mitie’s total security management business, said: “We have enjoyed becoming a trusted and innovative partner to Eurostar and look forward to continuing this in the future. We have also maintained our 100 per cent client retention rate in the transport and aviation sector. We have a proven track record in this sector where we have demonstrated success in understanding the compliance needs and how to enhance the passenger experience.”

Stephen Fielder, head of security at Eurostar added: “Mitie will continue to be a key partner to the growth of our business over the coming years. As a quality security and service provider, we are again entrusting them to handle the ever-increasing passenger volumes departing from our UK terminals on brand new fleet of (larger) trains later this year. We also have the challenge of introducing passport checking at all UK exit points and Mitie will be integral in supporting us in making this hassle-free for our passengers.”

The Chunnel rail link, in its third decade, has airport-style passenger screening at its English, French and Belgian stations.
