Pub Watch latest

by Mark Rowe

Gwent Police are reminding Caerphilly pub-goers that if you cause trouble, not only could you be arrested, you could also face a future ban from all pubs signed up to Pub Watch Online in the area. Nine pubs are part of Pub Watch Online in Caerphilly and seven in Blackwood and Bargoed nearby, which all promote safe and responsible drinking.

Seven new names came before the Pub Watch Online panel and all seven have received bans of various lengths for abusive behaviour towards customers and staff or criminal behaviour.

• A 24 year man from the Caerphilly area has received a 6 month ban for his behaviour inside the Kings Arms in Caerphilly on August 2.

• A 46 year old man from the Ystrad Mynach area has been banned for 5 years for assaulting a member of door staff at the Kings Arms in Caerphilly on August 1.

• A 33 year old woman from the Ystrad Mynach area has been banned for 5 for assaulting a member of door staff at the Kings Arms in Caerphilly on August 1.

Ryan Harper, the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) at the Courthouse pub in Caerphilly explains: “Pub Watch in Caerphilly are keen to create a safe and suitable environment for all to enjoy throughout the pubs and clubs in the area. We have noted that violent or aggressive offences will be dealt through Pub Watch with zero tolerance, particularly when these incidences involve our staff that are working to keep the environment safe for everyone.”

Blackwood and Bargoed Pub Watch also issued four bans in August:

• A 22 year old man from the Blackwood area has been banned for four months for fighting in Blisters nightclub on July 10.

• A 24 year old man from the Bargoed area has received a five year ban for assaulting a member of door staff at Blisters nightclub on July 10.

• A 23 year old man from the Bargoed area has received a 5 year ban for assaulting a member of door staff at Blisters nightclub on July 10.

• A 22 year old man from the Bargoed area has received a 5 year ban for assaulting a member of door staff at Blisters nightclub on July 10.

Night Time Economy Officer, PC Adam Lang says: “The majority of the popular pubs in Caerphilly are currently signed up to Pub Watch. People need to take note, that if you misbehave in one, your information will be shared with Gwent Police and other pubs and you could receive a ban varying from one month to life.

“Behaviour like this will not be tolerated in these pubs and people who act in this manner will be punished for their actions. We currently have 18 people banned from pubs across Caerphilly, Blackwood and Bargoed – and two new pubs have joined the scheme this month. I want to remind people that if you go out drinking this summer, please act responsibly and think about the consequences of your actions.”
