US roll-out for EAS

by Mark Rowe

EAS (electronic article surveillance) is going into each of Family Dollar’s 8000 stores across the US, for loss prevention. This is said to be one of the fastest roll-outs in the industry, with 3,500 installations already completed and 120 more each week.

The chain is planning source tagging and a ‘hard tag @source’ programme so that merchandise arrives at Family Dollar stores EAS tagged and shelf-ready. Family Dollar aims to reduce shrink and increase staff productivity by focusing their time on customers.

After field-testing, Family Dollar chose Checkpoint’s EVOLVE P10 ECO electronic article surveillance (EAS) because it also could lower energy costs and increase merchandise availability of key high-velocity items.

According to Julie Giblin, Family Dollar’s VP of Loss Prevention: “This rollout has already positively impacted our profitability. We could not be more pleased with the results and the partnership with Checkpoint, especially with the implementation speed.”

And Per Levin, president and chief sales officer Merchandise Availability solutions, Checkpoint Systems, said: “Teams on both sides are enthusiastically executing one of the most ambitious EAS roll-outs in the world, and are now engaging the vendor community in source tagging to deliver even greater financial benefits to the programme.” Visit www.checkpointsystems.com.
