Access Control

Vehicle access control

Nedap – the Dutch vehicle identification and detection product company – has launched its vehicle access control product Nedap MOOV. The makers say it’s specifically designed for vehicle entrances in cities and car parks. With this new solution Nedap will demonstrate its MOOV platform during Intertraffic Amsterdam, the exhibition from April 5 to 8.

The Dutch company offers building access control and RFID readers. Nedap MOOV originates from the Dutch market where the product is applied in more than 40 cities to regulate the volume and the flow of motor traffic in city centres and shopping areas. Managed vehicle entrances to the centre are created to control who is granted access. Multiple identification technologies can be applied to authorisation schemes. For example, police and emergency services can be given unrestricted access using long-range active RFID systems. Suppliers can be granted access at set times using license plate recognition. It is possible to allow access to licensed taxis only, using RFID. Other persons may be granted access manually through the remote web based management interface.

MOOV has a dedicated module for vehicle access management for business parks with multiple tenants. The system ensures that only authorised drivers are allowed access to the estate and also enables every tenant to only use its allocated share of the total parking. A third module was designed for parking operators to manage the entrance to their parking and enable the integration with booking systems for parking facilities.

Maarten Mijwaart, General Manager of Nedap Identifications Systems, said: “It is great that we are now able to deliver the renewed and improved MOOV platform to our international client base. Nedap Mobility Solutions, part of Nedap Identification Systems, has a broad portfolio of solutions that can help cities worldwide to deal with the mobility challenges that they face today. Vehicles are by far the most popular mode of transport in cities worldwide and systems like MOOV can contribute very effectively to a better and safer environment for city residents and visitors.”

Nedap’s VMC, a dedicated vehicle management controller, is connected to all potential local peripheral devices, such as intercom, traffic lights, RFID readers and barriers. It is able to run stand-alone when needed. Moreover, it is connected to a cloud based server, for administrators to manage access to the city in a secure way, at any time.

The system has proven to be effective in large and small cities. City centers have become more attractive to both pedestrians and drivers. Safety and traffic flow are optimized without hindering the emergency services, suppliers or taxis.
