Safeguarding hub

by Mark Rowe

The Police Digital Security Centre (PDSC) has launched a Safeguarding advice hub. As the Centre says, online abuse is a major concern and cyber-enabled abuse and bullying is inescapable. On safeguarding, the Centre says that much of the advice offered to SMEs by the PDSC can be applied to keeping adults and children alike safe online.

The advice hub contains information for adults and children, and aims to support people in making informed decisions and raise awareness to help prevent the risk of harm from abuse or exploitation. The PDSC partner with Child Safe VPN and will be sharing their advice and infographics.

Simon Newman, Head of Cyber and Business Services for the PDSC, said: “Like any parent, I worry about my children using the internet. Being able to talk to them about staying safe online is something we should all be doing regularly. These simple guides and infographics are a great way to support families in having meaningful conversations about internet safety and provide practical advice that’s easy to follow.”

About the Police Digital Security Centre (PDSC)

It’s part of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives, a police-owned, not-for-profit body that works on behalf of the UK police on crime prevention schemes. The PDSC’s focus is Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and their vulnerability to cyber-crime and fraud. The PDSC has developed an online assessment tool to test the resilience of a business to the most common types of cyber crime. Based on the NCSC’s Small Business Guide, and developed with BSI (the British Standards Institution), the Digitally Aware scheme recognises those businesses who have made the first step towards better cyber security.
