Connect Group contract

by Mark Rowe

The FM contractor Mitie has a five-year contract with the specialist distribution and logistics plc Connect Group after a competitive tender process. Through an integrated facilities management contract, Mitie will manage services including engineering, cleaning, security, reception and landscaping, across 78 distribution centres and the newspaper and magazine wholesaler’s headquarters in Swindon.

The deal brings all Connect Group’s FM services together, replacing local level arrangements. Connect Group, which operates under the brands Smiths News and Tuffnells, says it chose to consolidate supplier relationships to simplify working practices and to achieve cost savings.

Mitie says it will deploy new technology; its Direct Audits system, for delivery of engineering service. Designed to keep a check on the condition of assets, it also enables day to day monitoring, as well as supporting long term investment decisions.

Connect Group will also be using Mitie’s remote security centre MiTec, to see its properties’ security systems are overseen 24/7. Operating from Northern Ireland, MiTec offers an intruder and fire alarm monitoring service.

Carlo Alloni, Managing Director, Mitie Engineering, said: “We look forward to supporting the team with a much simpler and efficient system for all their facilities management needs enhanced by our new technology and market-leading security services.”

And James Church from Connect Group, said: “We are very pleased to have signed a contract with Mitie to provide us with a comprehensive list of services. We’re really looking forward to working together and introducing simpler and more consistent processes.”
