Rugby World Cup

by Mark Rowe

While England fans may not want to recall it, the eighth Rugby World Cup ran over six weeks to the final at Twickenham on October 31. The event security and stewarding company Showsec were on duty at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester for England’s Pool A beating of Uruguay on October 10, and for the three matches in a week at the King Power Stadium in Leicester, pictured.

Leicester-based Showsec’s Managing Director Mark Harding said: “Sport has been an important area of growth for us in recent years and the profile of being associated with this World Cup will certainly help to enhance that status. It follows on from the fact that we have had an association with many of the country’s biggest sporting occasions, most notably the Commonwealth Games, the 2012 London Olympics, World Championship boxing and last year’s third stage of the Tour de France’s Grand Depart in London was the biggest single working day in the Company’s history.” Over the tournament, the contractor had staff at more than 160 events, such as the Birmingham Weekender, a fan zone in the city to mark Villa Park’s hosting of two matches.
