SSAIB at Counter Terror Expo

by Mark Rowe

SSAIB, the UK certification body for organisations – which has its 20th anniversary in 2014 – will be returning to Counter Terror Expo on stand M40 for this April’s show, after it exhibited at the event in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

There are now over 1500 SSAIB-registered firms, including companies providing electronic security, intruder alarms, guarding services and fire detection systems, as well as new services such as telecare systems for the social alarms sector. Staff including SSAIB’s recently appointed Manned Services Scheme Manager, Stephen Grieve, will be at the event at London’s Olympia on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 29 and 30.

Stephen will be available to answer queries about significant issues such as the impact of the SIA’s business regulation regime, licensing due to become a legal requirement in April 2015. Meanwhile, the inspectorate says that an increasing number of insurance companies are specifying SSAIB’s Temporary Alarm Systems scheme to their clients supplying protection for void properties. The scheme assists in safeguarding construction areas, vacant premises and other buildings at risk from vandalism, arson, squatters, criminal damage and other harmful attacks. SSAIB also operates a BAFE SP 205 UKAS-accredited scheme that deals with the certification of companies or individuals carrying out a fire risk assessment of any premises.

SSAIB Sales and Marketing Manager Andrew Brown says: “We’ve recently been granted UKAS accreditation for both Environmental Management Systems and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. This enables us to support both existing and new clients requiring certification in these areas. We now offer a wide range of schemes covering security and fire systems, portable fire extinguishers, telecare services, manned security services and monitoring centres – the vast majority of which are UKAS-accredited.”
