Approval for cloud-based storage

by Mark Rowe

Cloudview has become the first vendor to gain Secured by Design approval for a cloud-based video storage.

The cloud security product company passed tests as specified by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).

Cloudview points to its ability to work with the original video feed, from the camera, rather than a copy of recorded data. Vital in maintaining evidential integrity, the camera’s video images are then transported off-site, by a VNA (Visual Network Adapter) attached to each camera, over an encrypted channel. The images are further encrypted and then stored in data centres that use military grade perimeter control beams, CCTV, and human guards for physical security. The VNA applies a digital fingerprint, or hash, to each frame, to mark the evidential veracity of each image.

James Wickes, CEO of Cloudview UK said: “Crime and the fear of crime have a significant impact upon us all and recognition by Secured by Design reaffirms our belief that VSaaS and Cloudview, in particular, is the only practical option for enhancing local recording solutions; by storing CCTV footage offsite without affecting its evidential integrity.”

Cloudview adds that it works for analogue and digital IP systems, with each camera connected to the cloud as resilience against vandalism. Cloudview is able to deliver offsite storage alongside existing recording, ever more significant according to the company as it becomes common for criminals to destroy or remove local video recorders if they find them.

Cloudview footage can also be integrated into other alarm and access control systems. The firm adds that it will be announcing an integration project shortly to accelerate crime reporting and contribute further to crime prevention.
