IP PTZ dome

by Mark Rowe

Samsung’s new SNP-5300H 1.3 Megapixel IP network PTZ dome offers a 30x optical zoom that lets operators observe close up detail of far away people or objects without pixilation the makers say.

Tim Biddulph, IP Product Manager for Samsung Techwin Europe Ltd said: “The combination of 1.3 Megapixels and 30x optical zoom has until now been an expensive option. The good news is that Samsung’s innovative 1.3 Megapixel lens technology has made it possible for us to offer the SNP-5300 at a price point which makes it affordable for a wide range of applications.”

Another feature in the SNP-5300 is PoE (Power over Ethernet) which offers the potential for savings on cable and installation, as it means that power can be drawn from the network. It is able to provide power for all of the dome’s features as well as for a built-in heater to work effectively when the outdoor temperature may be as low as minus 30 degrees C.

The SNP-5300H, which supersedes the SNP-5200H, has a new design. With an IP666 rated external housing, it is smaller and lighter than its predecessor and comes with a fan as well as a heater.

With a true day/night capability, and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) which makes it suitable the makers say for locations where there may be strong contrasting lighting, the SNP-5300H provides a PTZ dome option for video airports, ports and other transport facilities, and retail and industrial parks.

Using H.264 and MJPEG compression, the SNP-5300H provides the option to simultaneously transmit images to multiple locations at various frame rates and at different resolutions. Up to ten users can monitor live images simultaneously on a PC, smartphone or tablet via Samsung’ license free NET-i viewer software. At the same time JPEG images of an incident can be attached to an alarm email notification with the facility of storing pre and post-alarm images on an internal SD memory card.

A multi-language on screen display makes it easy for users to configure the SNP-5300H’s other extensive list of impressive features. These include four programmable Motion Detection zones, 12 programmable Privacy Zones, bi-directional audio support and Progressive Scan technology which negates motion blur and ensures sharp edges on moving subjects and vehicles.

A built-in license-free Intelligent Video Analytics (IVA) capability includes virtual line and enter/exit direction detection, as well as an Appear/Disappear function to detect the movement of objects. It also includes face detection and audio detection, and even has a scene change tampering function which creates an alert if, for example, paint is sprayed on a camera lens or there is unauthorised movement of a camera away from its usual field of view.

Available from Samsung distributors, the SNP-5300H is available with a range of accessories and brackets to provide a choice of wall, pole, parapet, pendant, corner and ceiling mounts. It is also offered with support services from Samsung Techwin Europe Ltd., including free system design, free technical support and three-year warranty.
