Data destruction boost

by Mark Rowe

A desire for standardised information management practices by multinationals based in the UK has contributed to an 18 per cent boost in number of customers for a UK data destruction company.

Manchester-based Shred-it Shred-it reports a global demand for its services as multinationals based in the UK and the US demand consistent information destruction standards across all their offices globally. This has boosted growth according to Shred-it in local markets and internationally as firms seek to comply with data protection regulation across multiple jurisdictions. In the UK alone, Shred-it has experienced an 18 per cent increase in its customer base, with 4,000 more companies acquiring the firm’s services. The year 2012 also saw the company expand its fully owned branch network in Qatar, Austria, Singapore and South Africa showcasing that the business is on track to meet business targets and projections in the new year.

Robert Guice, Executive Vice President, Shred-it, said: “We have seen a demand for our services both locally and internationally as more and more companies are waking up to the fact that secure data destruction is a must-have if they are to protect their business and customers. Multinationals are recognising the importance of standardised practices across all their markets. Shred-it have branches across the globe and we are pleased that we are able to provide companies with both a local and global strategy to help them manage risk and abide by data regulations.”

The firm adds that it plans to continue to invest in its national information destruction service in 2013, building on the opening of the £1.5m customer services centre at its UK headquarters in Sale, Greater Manchester. The centre now services customers across Europe including in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxemburg and the UK.
